Grief and loss are mental and emotional processes that serve a very important human purpose. Although an emotionally painful and sometimes fatiguing process, grief can allow us to transition to a different phase in our lives and move forward with wisdom and maturity. In some cases, grief can lead to clinical depression. The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to a loss of numerous human lives of loved ones, while the public health measures to limit its spread has impacted and restricted how we live. Therefore, through direct and indirect ways, the global pandemic has led to innumerable losses and disruptions in our ability to grieve in a healthy and effective manner.
Dr. Lener will address the different ways that we experience loss, walk through the stages of grief, help to differentiate grief from depression, and address the ways that the global pandemic has caused disruptions in the process, with an emphasis on providing concrete ways to mitigate the emotional pain.
